The made-for-television western The Sacketts combines the plotlines from two seperate Louis L’Amour novels, The Daybreakers and The Sacketts. Made ten years before Lonesome Dove, The Sacketts (1979) may well have been the first great Western Mini Series – and in looking at the cast, it’s easy to understand why some Western fans may hold it with similar esteem, with Western Greats like Glenn Ford, Sam ElliottTom SelleckSlim Pickens, Jack Elam, Ben  Johnson, L.Q. Jones, and some notable support players including John Vernon, Gilbert Roland, Buck Taylor  and on. Pretty impressive. So although The Sacketts does show itself to be a little shy in production values compared to modern fair, it still shines with notable Star Power.

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about Selleck lately as there’s rumors he will retire from Bluebloods. He says NO, but the series (14 seasons) is coming to an end I guess. Also he made a version of Monte Walsh, which I have never seen. I loved him in Quigley Downunder which is one of My Favorite Westerns. Seems to be one of those Actors who were made for Westerns,

    Tom made some good ones.

Indeed. Wish he had made a couple more. Magnum took up a chunk of his career.

We watched Quigley Down Under last night. It was good. Garry had seen it before, but it was new to me 🙂

      Glad you liked it.

If you had seen it a few years back you would have noticed that a lot of the nudity was now uncensored.
