  • The Death of Robin Hood … ?

The Robin Hood Song / 1955

“Reports of my death are wildly exaggerated.”
    – Robin Hood / 2026

I have no doubt that some guy that we have come to call Robin Hood really existed.
And had become a Hero to the common people of the day.

    Howdy Folks …

I’m not really intending to promote this movie …
Because frankly, I’m a BIG Robin Hood fan. Who wouldn’t be? –
Champion of us poor folks against evil and corruption?
But I should have guessed, in our times, that they would come up with a dark twist to things?
So here’s Hugh Jackman of Marvel Wolverine Fame diving in.
He’s hardly recognizable with that beard and hair.
And in looking at things, I really don’t expect this movie to do very well.
We’ll see … most likely coming soon on Netflix.

    Here’s the Trailer:

Yeah … you can see this is not Robin Hood / the Hero.
    Pretty dark.
I’m not really against a ‘new take’ on things, but …

Actors Who Have Played Robin Hood

I could not get a definitive number of Actors who have played Robin Hood.
    BUT there’s been a lot.
    Here’s a few:

Douglas Fairbanks — Robin Hood (1922)
Before mostly anybody was doing anything Fairbanks was doing it all.

Errol Flynn — The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
Basil Rathbone liked Flynn, but confessed he was a “lousy” swordfighter.
But Flynn’s Star Power nullified any shortcomings.

The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) - IMDb

Richard Todd — The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men (1952)
(I’m a bit surprised of such a racy pic of a near naked Robin Hood for a Disney Film of 1952 era)

Richard GreeneThe Adventures of Robin Hood (1955–1959)
    The classic British TV series.
    I remember it well.

Sean Connery — Robin and Marian (1976)
    Audrey Hepburn! My Goodness!
(Notice she is actually Billed higher than Connery and Shaw.)

Kevin Costner Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)
Costner wisely didn’t attempt an English accent.

Cary ElwesRobin Hood: Men in Tights (1993)
    Directed by Mel Brooks.
Elwes followed his brilliant work in The Princess Bride.

Russell Crowe — Robin Hood (2010)
    Ridley Scott’s take.
An underrated Movie that I’ve watched at least 3 times.

Of course there are several other depictions of Robin Hood
and likely some that you favor.
    The uplifting Legend with survive.

  • UPDATE: Tyrone Power: Zorro: Swashbuckling Essentials: The Clinch! Part 1 …

Right after I claim my prize for the Longest Title in Blog history!
    I’ll get to posting  !

    Eagles / Hotel California

OK!!! back a ways I posted Essential Swashbuckling : Candle Slashing.
    (I’m sure you remember *Coff*)

We now move to another Swashbuckling Essential :

    The Clinch !!!

I’m not sure you’ve noticed (pay attention!), but in most any Classic Cinematic Climactic Sword Fight
the combatants at some point come together in what we call
    The Clinch !
    (Indeed!)

    The Clinch: a Definition:

When two fighters grapple or come together at close quarters.
Whereby, in film, the combatants often exchange pithy taunts, insults or threats!

In The Mark of Zorro (1940 ) we see Zorro (Tyrone Power)
and antagonist Capt. Esteban Pasquale (Basil Rathbone) engage in 2 Clinches:

    Clinch #One

(In a Gentleman’s Duel the opponents often start off in a courteous exchange):

But shortly things will likely degrade to Insults, Taunts, Threats, Spitting, Biting, Pinching, Kicking, etc …

    Shameful .. but often effective.
    Always entertaining.

    Clinch #Two

Let’s watch that Classic Sword Fight again:

    Keeping Score?:

    3 Candle Slashes
    Clinches
    8 Threats
    6 Taunts
    5 Insults

    Conclusion:

    One dead badguy
Zorro’s Rapier from the Mask of Zorro
    (Sweet)
    A Swiss Sabre
    (Lethal)

    “En Garde!”
