Kris Kristofferson Cowboy … Part 1

Seems like every week somebody I grew up with dies.
But I didn’t know that Kris kristofferson
had died on September 24 of this year, until just now.

I just don’t watch the News like I used to.

This should not have been a shock to us though because Kris himself had advised us fairly recently that he didn’t think he’d be around much longer.
He was 88 and in poor health.

There had been recent false claims that he had already passed.

So I had to double check to see if this was true.
Sadly it was.

Kris, of course, was a brilliant Songwriter and many of his songs are regarded as Country Music Classics.

That we be a great enough legacy for anybody, but Kris also made more than a couple of notable Western Movies.

One of those is in my Top Ten Favorite Western Movies of all time:
Sam Peckinpah’s Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid / 1973

Kris proved that he that indefinable thing that you can’t buy or create:
Star Power.

    Beautiful post jcalberta 🙂 While I am aware that he died back in late September of this year, Kris Kristofferson will be dearly missed 🙁 I watched two of my many favorite westerns that featured him – Sam Peckinpah’s Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid from 1973 (you got to buy the Criterion Edition that was released months ago) and Michael Cimino’s misunderstood masterpiece Heaven’s Gate from 1980.

      The original release was a disaster. The revised versions are much better.
      Cimino! What a character. I know there are at least 2 verions of Heaven’s Gate. Sounds like a Peckinpah event. Seems Kris was in on two of the most controversial Westerns of all time.

        I guarantee that you will love the Criterion edition of Pat Garrett and Bill the Kid and yes, to have two controversial masterpieces on there is quite an accomplishment 🙂

        I sometimes post the word testing to make sure I do not get a “nonce verification failed” result. Sometimes that happens, I am not sure why though 🙂

    You beat me, JC, but my Kris blogs are much more detailed. He has been one of all time favorites and his music is poetry.

        Haven’t posted any of it yet, JC. Right now I am writing about his Billy the Kid in the movie, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. I have it on DVD and like it a lot.

        Don, I believe there are a least 3 versions of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. The first one was the butchered version shoved out by the Producers who hounded and harrassed Peckinapah thoughout the production to the point where he walked away and never really finished the Movie. Most all the footage had been done, but none of the editing. After he died some friends got hold of all this and re-edited the film to the way they thought Peck would have wanted it. It subsequently is excellent and was then well recieved by fans and Critics alike. Whereas the in initial version was justifyably pissed on – and I watched it recenlty and didn’t like it myself. Anyway, just saying. Looking forward to your post.
