For Quinn!
Prince Edward Island Trip: Part 3
They say “Size isn’t everything”!
How True!
And in some instances it means absolutely NOTHING!
For example:
PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND (PEI):

… by far the smallest Province in Canada.
Yet it lays claim to the the most important Historical Event in
Canadian History:
The forming of our Nation itself!
For on July 1, 1867 in Charlottetown, PEI
the union of British North American Colonies: New Brunswick,
Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec joined to form the
Canadian Confederation – The Dominion of Canada.
Earning PEI‘s capital, Charlottetown the title:
CUNABULA FOEDERIS
“Birthplace of Confederation“.
Not bad for a Province whose present population
still only stands at only about 182,000 people!
Below:

So you might imagine my immense disappointment to find that
the very place that USED to celebrate this event was
CLOSED to the public for renovations!!!
This was the single most important attraction that I wanted to see in PEI!
And it’s become a huge controversy and annoyance to the Islanders, because this has taken so long and is costing so much money.
$138M, 10 years later: P.E.I.’s iconic Province House almost …
When you listen to these Spokespeople in the video you can sense the
immense pressure they’ve subjected to by the disgruntled Islanders.
But “10 years” … that is a bit much.
Province House Interior
The seat of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island,
where the legislature has met since 1847
This was a singular disappointment on our visit.
Because I doubt that I’ll ever get back to fix that.
BUT there was much more to do and see.
