Get Up Dogs / Buddy Tabor
MFW Review:
I couldn’t get past the fact that I could see that this wasn’t a real dog.
This kinda ruined my enjoyment / immersion.
And that they also took liberties with the story – the book.
4 out of 10.

More Box Office Blunders:
Wikipedia says: “As of March 15, 2020, The Call of the Wild has grossed $62.1 million in the United States and Canada, and $45.2 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $107.3 million. Due to its high production and marketing costs, the film will need to gross $250–275 million in order to break-even; various publications estimate it will lose the studio between $50–100 million.”
MFW: This isn’t the first time that Disney has made this identical marketing blunder. Solo: a Star Wars Movie also took a huge loss of millions of dollars from over marketing. (Ironically, Harrison Ford was the original Han Solo.)
Haven’t seen any of the films, but the book was a classic even though it had a rather sad ending.
London was a good and original writer. Lots of people liked his philosophy.
The ending is sad yes. I believe more than one film version dared to change the ending.
I adore the book. I don’t have a problem with Harrison Ford. A CGI dog? No thanks.
Yes Harrison was good. Always is. He was the draw, but if they just made good movie based on the book … ? Why make the movie at all? Did somebody have an inspired interpretation? For the most part – apart from CGI Buck – who is supposed to be the heart of this thing – the movie was good – and the folks I was with enjoyed it. I guess It’s just me.
You “like” button is not working. Neither is anyone else’s.
I also didn’t like that the dog isn’t a real dog. Seems to me there are enough real dogs around that they could have found the right one.
Nobody’s ‘like’ button is working? Probably something I screwed up somehow?
Marilyn, I went to that movie with 3 other people and they all liked it. But because of the artificial dog I just couldn’t get past that. Yeah, we don’t have anyone who can pull that off? Sad. But like I said, for me it has to measure up to the book somehow – and that is pretty hard.
