Johnny Cash sings “The Sons of Katie Elder“;
a rather awful song written by Elmer Bernstein and Ernie Sheldon.
The film’s background music was also composed by Elmer Bernstein.
The Sons of Katie Elder / 1965
Dean’s second Western with John Wayne.
A follow-up to immensely popular Rio Bravo (1959)
Katie Elder was a real person and the events surrounding the Sons is also loosely based on historical events.
More on that later.

100%!!??? Definitely not.
I really gotta say that I’m mystified by the high ratings? To me this is nothing more that a second level John Wayne Western – almost a formula flick.
These ratings would make it almost a Classic – which it is not.
But obviously a lot of people like it.
Next: The Sons of Katie Elder / Part 2
Nice criticism…👌👍
Howdy Eliza.
Just my opinion. I like John, but he’s done a lot better.
Oh I see…😊
A very good post. I really like all the old black ,white and old colour Western pictures on this post.
Thanks
Quinn
Hi Quinn. You do a some black and photography too don’t you?
yes I dd take very good class on black and white photography. I will have to do anther post on my page on black and white photography.
This is not one of my favorites.
Me neither … I have to say I was surprised by the Reviews.
I certainly agree with you rather than the critics. This movie has never been a Wayne movie I would watch over again.
Up here they show it on TV often. I was guessing it’s popular, but I wouldn’t rate it highly myself.
