  1. Costner has, hopefully, learned what he does well and what he should avoid. Really good in “small” movies, my two favorites being Bull Durham and Tin Cup … really awful as a larger-than-life hero — e.g. Water World and Robin Hood. He was also an astonishingly boring Wyatt Earp. He can act … in the right vehicle. Hopefully, he’s past his heroic phase.

    1. He’s made some great stuff … and some not so great stuff. My favorite film of all his work is Field of Dreams. Costner did not Direct Wyatt Earp though – Kasden did – so a lot of the boredom should be placed where it belongs. LoL! I think Open Range was Costner’s worthy response to the failure of Wyatt Earp. I also think that after his massive success with Dances With Wolves,a lot of people were looking to take him down a peg – so a good deal of the criticism he got is exaggerated. Yes, his Star has fallen, but he has proven he can Direct – among other things – so he will never be completely dependent upon others for work – or success. There’s a rumor floating (possibly unwarranted) that Tom Cruise is considering Costner for a part in his remake of The Magnificent Seven. ??
